In recent articles, I explored the idea that Product is the new Strategy and which consulting brand leverages best to leadership roles in industry.

This time around I wanted to address a market sizing question - which Australian city is your best bet for career opportunities?  Using LinkedIn data, the following results came through:

Number of individuals in roles by location

Sydney is the clear winner, with 50% of Strategy roles, 48% of Transformation roles, 50% of Corporate Developments/M&A roles, and a dominant 62% of Private Equity/Venture Capital roles in Australia.

Melbourne comes in a distant second, with 32% of strategy roles, 35% of Transformation roles, 29% of Corporate Development/M&A roles and 26% of Private Equity/Venture Capital roles in Australia.

Brisbane comes in third, with 8% of strategy roles, 8% of Transformation roles, 10% of Corporate Development/M&A roles and 5% of Private Equity/Venture Capital roles in Australia.

Perth comes in fourth, with 5% of strategy roles, 4% of Transformation roles, 8% of Corporate Development/M&A roles and 5% of Private Equity/Venture Capital roles in Australia.

Adelaide comes in fifth, with 3% of strategy roles, 3% of Transformation roles, 2% of Corporate Development/M&A roles and 2% of Private Equity/Venture Capital roles in Australia.

Canberra comes in the last place, with 2% of strategy roles, 3% of Transformation roles, less than 1% of Corporate Development/M&A roles and 1% of Private Equity/Venture Capital roles in Australia.

These results do not mean the right role for you is not based in your preferred city of course - it merely shows that Sydney has the largest pool of career opportunities for individuals seeking strategy, transformation, corporate development/M&A and private equity/venture capital roles.
